INTRODUCTION
  Background To The Study
The beverage industry has to a large extent  contributed to our economic development, in which the Nigerian Bottling Company Ltd a member of Coca-Cola Hellenic group is one of the leading players among others and their aim is to maximize profit and produce quality products to meet customers need.
In today’s highly competitive and ever changing environment, if organizations are to survive, if they are to retain the market or gain a larger  share of the market, then they must be able to equip employees with  the right kind of training and develop  them in other  for them to give  their  best and exceed their competitors.
Management is active not theoretical. It is about changing behaviour and making things happen. Management focuses on getting people developed, joining effort with them, hence, to extend an action to objectives and accomplishing results. Indeed, all the study done into how managers spend their time shows that they are creatures of the moment, constantly immersed in the nitty-gritty of making things happen. (Mullins 2010)
Training and development is very important for an organization to compete with  this challenging and changing world. Training and development is directly related to employees but it ultimate  effect  goes  to the organization. The importance of training  cannot be over-emphasized because  it increases the efficiency  and effectiveness of both employees  and the organization. Training is important to enhance the capabilities of employees. Training has impact on the return on investment.
The knowledge, skills and abilities that are required of employees, to perform well on the job, requires effective training programs that may also affect employees motivation and commitment. (Meyer & Allen 1991).
Employee is a blood stream of any business and training is a necessity in the work place. The achievement or failure of the organization depends  on its employees' performance. Therefore, top management  should  invest in training  and development  of employees to improve  their performance.
